Fatal Accident Claims Life of Promontory Man

A dynamite explosion in western Box Elder County caused fatal injuries to 59-year-old Brent Larsen of Promontory. The explosion occurred on a farm at 5800 N. East Promontory Road, south of Promontory near the north shore of the Great Salt Lake. Life flight was called to the scene and the man was taken to an Ogden Hospital in extremely critical condition.
The explosion happened at approximately 10:46 a.m. on Friday. According to unconfirmed reports, Larsen was disposing of the dynamite he found in a shed on his farm when it exploded, sending shrapnel into his head.
There were no other injuries reported. It was believed that all the dynamite had exploded, but authorities were still taking precautions. Box Elder County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Potter said the bomb squad was called to the scene and that they had just begun the preliminary investigation.
More information will follow.
